Vicky Cristina who??
Linda from Cork, 28 Jun 2009
This isn't a bad film, it's a terrible film! The narration throughout the film is particularly annoying, along with Johansson and Hall's wooden performances. The medicore plot fails to deliver anything new and exicting. The so-called "love" story is just one big love circle instead of a triangle. If you cared about the characters than maybe it could have worked, but you just don't. Cruz and Bardem are the only redeemable features in this film. The best thing about this film for me is that it is

Woody's best film in years

As a longtime Woody Allen fan I can say that it's easily his best movie in years. It's highlight is a deserved Oscar winning performance from Penelope Cruz. Her character arrives almost half way into the movie, but she manages to:
a. Turn the whole movie on it's head
b. Take the movie in a different direction
c. Act everyone else off the screen (no mean feat when your co-stars are Javier Bardem & Scarlett Johansson)
She was edgy, charming and funny. It was definitely one of the most

Even somebody not a Woody Allen fan will enjoy

I'm not a Woody Allen fan, never have been, so I reluctantly watched this one and almost begrudgingly, I liked it, sort of. A few twists, nice location, Scarlett is quite wooden and Penelope is the best thing in the movie, all points the previous reviews have highlighted and all I agree with. Whats nice about it is the setting - its a good advert for Barcelona and Catlan lifestyle.
Excellent, classic Allen

This is rather good, better than I'd espected, with an excellent all star cast. Funny, ( but not in a laugh out loud sense), wistful, tale od how love can go a bit awry, and about what people settle for. Excellent location work in Spain, excellent acting by the three women in particular. A return to form for Allen's directorial work.
'Vicky Cristina Barcelona (Blu-Ray)'

Definetly a chick flick but it does have some nice eye candy from Scarlet Johanson & Penelope Cruz...Its a bit vacous but as long as you know that before you sit down to watch it its ok. Its park your brain stuff...I though it was watchable, I wouldnt say good but I would say bad either. It is what it is, a piece of escapism...
