A fantastic insight into the scary world of depression-era dance marathons, where a group of desperate characters are exploited by unscrupulous dance promoters. Some might call it Reality TV, 1930s style!
Brilliant performances all round, particularly from the vulnerable Susannah York and the sinister Gig Young.
Sydney Pollack directed some fine films in a distinguished career, but never quite equalled this one again.
