The Science Of Sleep

4.5 out of 10 Ecclectic, somewhat weird, but somewhat fun
David from Dublin, 12 Jun 2009
A movie following the crazy imaginings and mundane life of a guy who moves to France after his father dies. The movie explores his dreams as a way of giving insight into his mind, as well as showing his reaction to meeting a woman who he suddenly sees something in that he doubts he'll see in any other woman ever again. There are some pretty surreal scenes, some down to earth life and work scenes, and a love plot thread that never seems forced and is pretty believable. I like this film.

4.5 out of 10 Brilliant film making
Tim from Cork, 30 Oct 2007
One of those rare cinematic events where the watcher has to work hard. Not everything is served to you. You have to take in the signifigance of every frame and every word and every sound and figure out what is going on. What happens when we slepp...we dream! What are dreams about...who knows? Everybody should have an interpretation of what this film is about. No two interpretations will be the same and no single interpretation will be wrong. Requires a few watches!!!

There is not really much to be taken from it plot wise, but it is such a beautifully made, fun piece of cinema to watch. It wont be to evertyones taste, but if your sick of CGI and would like to see some inovative film making and effects, its definitly one to check out.

1.5 out of 10 'The Science Of Sleep'
Wolf from Clare, 28 May 2008
Can't say I enjoyed it, but if you like to work hard at a movie - this one has plenty of levels to play with. It wasn't awful but I wouldn't be in a rush to see it again. Charlotte Gainsbourg is always good.

0 out of 10 Boring Rubbish hiding behind a good title name
Angeline from Dublin, 04 Feb 2008
This movie takes the liberty of your good time which could be used in a far more benifical manner - kept waiting for it to improve and regretfully wasted my time till the end.

What's it about....
In director Michel Gondry's, The Science of Sleep, life seems to be looking up for shy and withdrawn Stephane (Gael García Bernal) when he is coaxed to return to his childhood home with the promise of a job...in the mundane world of copy setting. Wildly creative, his fanciful and sometimes disturbing dream life constantly threatens to usurp his waking world. Stephane is quickly drawn to his neighbor, Stephanie (Charlotte Gainsbourg) whose imagination easily matches his own....
