Clever Twists!

I liked this film. It does however require quite a determined attention span to fully get to grips with the plot. Jim Carrey is probably not ever going to be the best person to play a straight part, I kept thinking that at any point he was going to burst into some bizarre Ace Ventura act. He didn't. If you can ignore Carrey and just get on with focusing on the twisting tale, you'll end up smiling when the truth is outted, and you will find yourself saying 'I should have seen that coming!'

93...minutes

...of my life that I'll never get back. I rented this movie on the strenght of the trailer. In hind sight I don't know how they even found 2 or 3 minutes out of the whole thing to make a good trailer. My hopes were dashed almost instantly when Joel Schumachers name appeared as director in a ridiculous non event opening sequence. After about 40 minutes of terrible acting I was falling asleep and had to turn it off. I struggled through the 2nd half later to, unfortunately, finish it!

Good but...

Im sorry but there were some scenes in this film, that I just got the feeling Jim Carrey was laughing or giggling inside and trying to hold it back and it killed the mood somewhat. Hes a funny guy and *can* do semi-serious roles (sunshine of the spotlessmind) but I dont think dark roles like this are really up to par.
having said that, however, it was an enjoyable film; I just didnt feel emersed in it, like a film of this nature requires.
Typical Schumacher

Typical, as in pretty dire. As always with Schumacher ('Falling Down', '8MM', 'Phone Booth'), this looks like it should have been damned interesting but, in reality, it ends up being a total waste of time.
Plot twists abound, narrative threads weave themselves intricately .. but you finally find yourself staring incredulously at a big fat mess.
Too long

Good idea, badly done. Didn't believe in any of the characters, the plot was nonsensical, and saw the 'twist' from a mile away.
As parents, the two main characters didn't seem to care at all what their son was put through, which made the whole thing more unbelievable.
Jim Carey can do better then this. Can't he???
