I wasn't keen on the tone of a seemingly bleak 1950s America, but that's just personal taste.
Overall, this is a good movie with a story that's not easy to predict and keeps moving in interesting directions.
I also like how the main character can be interpreted in several different ways, despite having plenty of details on his actions.
The characters feel alive and the story is one of a wrong movie on a guys behalf causing his life to spiral in a crazy direction as he wonders what exactly does he want out of life?

This film is a gem. The cast is fantastic, especially Billy Bob Thornton blew me in this - again, as I've seen this film twice so far. It's one of those you can watch over and over again.
It is a slow film with slow dialogue, not only because it's in black and white but because it's beautifully shot.
Highly recommended!
