Go with it , its worth it

U feel somewhat as if you have been dropped into the middle of a movie right at the beginning of this one, however if you just go with it and don't try to work out what might have gone on before that point then you are sure to enjoy this one. Alan Bennet at his funny, soulful, wistful best and wel interpreted to boot. Full of warm sentiment that is never sentimental, its too clever for that, this film engages on lots of levels with a great cast doing a splendid job of making us care about each.

Refeshing !!!!!

This is one of the best movies have have seen in 07 its hasnt lost anything bringing it onto screen from stage if anything i think it may have inhanced it somewhat.
Th acting in it is subline.
While their are not many plot twists and turns you do find yourself been drawn into the emotional ride that these young boys go through in their persuit of education and how they are willing to over look certain incidents and showing that they are wise beyond their years.
Watch it and enjoy it.

Only slightly grim up North

This film adaptation retains too much of the theatrical feel of Alan Bennett's original play. That said, it was obviously a good play and the cast - all from the original stage production - are fantastic. To my mind, however, this is an uneasy blend of social history (it's set in the 1980s) and general musing on the theme of education. Worth watching for fans of Alan Bennett and British theatre and cinema.

Awful, risible nonsence

I like Alan Bennets work in general but this is one of the worse films I have ever seen, totally stage bound in its execution and even in 1983 working class lads that age didnt quote Auden
ad nauseam, dialogue and acting are terrible, worse of all it makes a joke of teachers sexually assaulting pupils! If it had been set in a girls school it never would have been made. Avoid at all costs
A brilliant movie

This was a strange but strangely moving film that tracked the school year towards their inevitable arrival at Oxbridge. A tremendous cast delivered a movie very rarely seen these days. The film was full of unknowns and very well knowns and was a pleasure from start to finish. I recommend it to all my friends
