All this useless beauty

I was expecting stunning visuals here, and I wasn't disappointed on that score - stylistically this is an extraordinary movie. Hugh Jackman gives a remarkable performance, and Rachel Weisz is surprisingly good. The problem however is the huge sacrifice of plot clarity for visual effect - it ends on a "what the hell?" note that betrays the emotional investment you have made in the characters, and this bum note is likely to cancel out the technical beauty...

beautifully shot

I rented this one because I loved the look of the trailer. A reason as good as any other and I wasn't disappointed. A bit confused maybe because there are some holes in the storyline. But the pictures more than make up for it. Watching this film at some points feels like being in someone else's dream. The end left me slightly disappointed, though. Feels like it wasn't finished yet. All in all a good film, in parts visually stunning.

Visually breathtaking, beautiful images. Story line was not explained properly and I was left wondering "what was that about"!! Great concept for a movie (three moments in time with the same main characters), a kind of love through the ages saga....but it turned out not to be this at all. Dissappointed!
Too wierd

Seems to me to be trying to do too much, particularly in terms of trying to be abstract and enigmatic. There definitely is some message there but it seems not to work too well on screen. Some good imagery and touch-feely moments but it was a bit frustrating to watch for me.

Didn't quite know what to make of it. Was glad I didn't force the wife to sit through it! ...and still there's something beautiful and special about it. I know why some others think it's a piece of pretentious crap. Confused by this review? Try the film.
