2.5 out of 10 bit of a wasted opportunity
Thomas from Limerick, 19 May 2009
this wasn't awful, nor was it great...a kind of a middle of the road one, lacked any tension or excitement in general, without any of the eerie feeling the original had. Keanu is very good in his usual way, ( in the role of a somewhat robotic alien ) . Effects are good, but again, something like War of the Worlds did better with similar global destruction themes. at the end you just go... well, so?

4 out of 10 Better than expected
John from Donegal, 24 Apr 2009
An alien is capured and says the world is going to be destroyed. After all the bad reviews, I wasn't expecting much from this. But it was excellent. The special effects were great but didn't take over. The acting was good (even from Reeves, who got slated by the critics). Good ending too, which so often lets down the big film. Well worth a look.

1.5 out of 10 Poor Remake.
Alan from Dublin, 10 May 2009
Keanu suited the role of the unemotionable alien perfectly because it meant he didn't have to act. The eco storyline wasn't expanded on nearly enough and the ending was very poor. Apart from the good special effects, I'd say this was a total washout.

2 out of 10 Not a patch on the original...
Ken from Dublin, 29 Apr 2010
Anaemic remake with none of the charm of the 1950's original which frankly just blows this out of the water. If you haven't seen the original and are more interested in substance and content over superficiality and vacuousness then seek it out.

2 out of 10 enjoyed
Petra from Dublin, 24 Aug 2009
i enjoyed this when i first saw it and enjoyed it again today - its no blockbuster and it does lack tension but it's a good storyline and very apt to modern times! perhaps that's why it's good. reeves was good in his role as the alien.
