Authentic fact based story from Germanic film
Peter from Mayo, 24 May 2008
Another excellent Oscar nominated movie from the new Germanic European line of films such as Downfall and The Lives of Others that have seen Germany deal with its relatively recent past. This film deals with the handpicked counterfeiters that escaped the worst excesses of the Concentration camps, to be put to work in relatively good conditions with the aim of producing flawless conterfeit dollars and sterling banknotes.

Decent WWII drama

A harrowing period of recent history is brought effectively to life as we get a good insight into the lives of the skilled Jewish counterfeiters who were given a privileged life in the camps as repayment for cracking the Pound and Dollar for the Nazis. No weak acting is to be found and the overall effect is very convincing. A strong addition to the genre.
Good film

Good entertaining film only spoiled by the fact the main character is alive at the beginning (which is the end, as the rest of the film is flashback) so you know he's not going to die in the camp, no matter whom he upsets. Well acted and filmed, prone to clichés here and there but generally well made.
The Counterfeiters

An excellently portrayed representation of what life was like for the jews that the Nazis could use for their benefit. Very well structured and presented. Makes you question what would I have done?
Excellent and engaging, without being sentimental

Enjoyed this film, which didn't fall into the camps of over sentimentalising the holocoaust or making it so harrowing that you can't watch. Good acting, engaging story... a good quality film.
