Good story

If you have read the book you may be slightly disappointed by the adaptation particularly the reasoning behind giving all the main characters English accents, part of Bruno's (the little boy) make up was the fact that he mispronounced everything relating to his life. Films can very rarely compete with books though so putting that aside it keeps to the main theme of the story and delivers its twist very well, as thought provoking as the book, would recommend.

Do you read?

This is a very good film if you have never read the book. The characters just aren't developed in the same way as in the book (the book is very small, can be read in a matter of hours) so too much content was not the problem, the main core of this story is the innocence of children & I felt the characters in the movie just didn't have the same innocence. If you don't read, watch this movie, if you do read I would strongly suggest sticking with the book.

Pulls at the heartstrings

Amazing film but if you are the emotional type, you will need tissues. If you have kids, you will never let them out of sight again. It had me in bits and being heavily interested in Wartime Germany, it was what I imagine life at a concentration camp would be. I would have liked it if we got more from within the camp itself but it was all through that 8 year old boys eyes. Definitely one to watch but not for the faint hearted.

Very disappointing

Didn't capture the magic of the book at all. The actor playing Bruno had that kid-in-horror-movie look, there was no mystery, and we didn't come to the slow realisation that we do in the book but rather see (AS DOES BRUNO RUINING THE WHOLE POINT) while the opening credits were rolling. Didn't even watch to the end in case in completely destroyed something that I liked. REad the book instead
don't know...

I had heard a lot about this film...my hubby is an English teacher and it was on the course for one of his classes, so they read the book & we watched the film! So by proxy.........'the book is descriptive, heart-wrenching and soulful, but the film is indescriptive, not very heart-wrenching and just a little soulful'. Well, in my words, it was all of the '1st' above!
