0.5 out of 10 A waste of time
Victoria from Cork, 04 Jul 2007
Being a couple of True Crime buffs, we were really looking forward to watching this movie. If you think this movie related in any way to the Black Dahlia case, you are in for a disappointment. The only true facts within this movie were Betty Short's name and the dismemberment of her body. The rest is all total fantasty. Don't bother, the acting was terrible. At least it got me to look up the correct information about this case again.

0.5 out of 10 Erm, where is the actual case?
Monika from Cork, 13 Apr 2007
The Black Dahlia case has always intrigued me and I was hoping for a strong storyline on the back of it. In particular with Brian DePalma as director. But the movie instead concentrates on the very uninteresting lives of the 2 principal characters, the Dahlia case is reduced to background. And when will Fiona Shaw start acting again instead of giving OTT performances as hysterical cardboard characters???

2 out of 10 the black dahlia
Martina from Donegal, 26 Mar 2007
With such an accomplished cast, i was really looking forward to watching this movie, however it is a major let down due a highly fragmented plot...it's really disappointing even though it looks slick and stylish...however the elaborate costumes and impressive production do not hide the fact that the movie is all over the place..not recommended!

1.5 out of 10 Doesnt live up to the book
Suzanne from Kerry, 04 Oct 2007
Very disappointing. For those who have read the book or are just James Ellroy fans, you can see they try to recreate the language and atmosphere, so it does look good, but the plot falls completely flat by the end. Real pity.

What's it about....
The Black Dahlia weaves a fictionalized tale of obsession, love, corruption, greed and depravity around the true story of the brutal murder of a fledgling Hollywood starlet that shocked and fascinated the nation in 1947 and remains unsolved today. Two ex-pugilist cops, Lee Blanchard (Aaron Eckhart) and Bucky Bleichert (Josh Hartnett), are called to investigate the homicide of ambitious silver-screen B-lister Betty Ann Short (Mia Kirshner) a.k.a. "The Black Dahlia" - an attack...
