2001 meets Freddy Kruger

The sun is dying. The Icarus II is slowly plodding its course straight in to the sun to reignite the dying star. The first half takes its time developing characters and sucking you in. When they pass Mercury they receive a distress signal from the lost Icarus I. There is all goes pearshaped. After a near disaster they are forced to dock with the derlict ship. Suddenly we switch gears from 2001 to 28 days. With the mission in jeapordy and time running out you'll be on the edge of your seat

Brilliant film, badly ended
John from Donegal, 12 Nov 2007
I thought this was an excellent film, right up to the last 20 minutes or so. The characters were well thought out, the plot was pretty unbelievable, but played out with conviction, and the special effects very good and unobtrusive. There were no real surprises, and much was taken from other films. But the ending was sooo bad. What were they thinking?? I imagine that they felt the need to put a twist at the end, but this only ended up destroying an otherwise brilliantly played drama.

A Perfect Accompaniment To A Gin & Tonic!
Les from Dublin, 16 Jun 2008
Not the best sci-fi film I've ever seen, but it was enjoyable enough, though the plot was a bit predictable. Great liberties were taken with the physics theory, but you're allowed to do that with sci-fi. Interesting effects really gave the impression of heat - which had me reaching for another refreshing gin and tonic every so often , so I guess I should thank the director for that if nothing else. But, anyway don't take my word for it, pour yourself a g 'n' t and give it a try.

Brave effort

One for the sci-fi fans, this has been compared to 'Event Horizon' and 'Solaris" and I can see why. The characters are not necessarily effectively drawn but the story and setup is very interesting and it's quite tense at times. I considered the ending a let down but was pleased with what was on offer for the most part. It brings to life the concept of near-space travel very well and, if you can forgive the final third's slide, is a good movie.

Sunshine

When I saw the trailer for this I was delighted to see that Danny Boyle was taking on antoher genre. Overall, the film isn't as good as it could have been or as I expected it to be. Having said that, no other director is experimenting as successfully with the digital format in my opinion. Also, there is a bizarre and confusing intensity to this film that can't be explained. I think that reflects the lay persons concept of space pretty well...
