they werent the only people waiting to be rescued, thank God i didnt have to wait till dawn. its filled with those actors who all wanted to outdo each other on the weight loss program.a hour of 'oh look, my rags dont fit, oscars here i come'. Davies in particular is one of those actors who is the same in every film, a whiney, mumbling pretentious actor. Bale is good but not enough to save it. It is a film you will either love or hate,me i just want my hours back...your mileage may differ.

Fascinating story.

Herzog's second screen portrayal of Dengler's plight in and out of Laos falls short of being a classic but is still engaging viewing. Bale delivers another fine performance as do the rest of mostly unrecognizable cast. The scenery looks very authentic too which adds to the effect of hopelessness these guys sometimes feel. It could have been made much more uncomfortable to watch but Herzog steers clear of much abuse while still getting across the amazing achievement by Dengler.

Interesting tale.

A movie made about the only US POW to successfully escape captivity during the Vietnam war. Its quite an interesting story and its well acted by Bale, but this is worth renting for the special features alone. Werner Hertzog, who has to be the most eccentric director in the business today is captured leaping into snake and eel infested waters and more while trying to get to grips with the complexities of a scene. They simply don't make them like him anymore!

To my shame I didn't know this was directed by german arthouse 'king' Werner Herzog...I bloodly well did by the end of it though. I have to say I'm not the biggest fan of Klaus kinski's mentor and this film reinforced this. It was a little camp, alot wired and looked and felt like Herzog's other jungle flicks (the fella loves his jungle). Even thopugh this is based on a true story it still came across as a camp comedy with tinges of satire.

Makes other action movies look like kids films

Simultaneously entertaining and devstating, this is a survival story, that places its faith squarely in the human capacity for endurance, hope and ingenuity. The scenes in the prison camp are particularly strong, as the prisoners react in different ways to their ordeal. Bale's Dengler is a real-life action-hero, and his spirit, bravery and humour put Bruce and Arnie in the shade.
