3 out of 10 Great Acting, Script but Shaky Hand Held Camera
Ken from Louth, 31 Dec 2009
This film is all about Kym and how she affects the title of the film. It does give a realistic view of a very messed up person, extremely well played by Hathaway. It's also typical indie/arthouse fare where characters, script and cameras seem to do whatever they like. The live music approach is interesting, even if it grates on occasions. Given Demme's track record in music and videos it's not surprising he's used so much of it. That said some of the wedding scenes are a little too long but

4 out of 10 Great Indie Movie
Fergal from Dublin, 14 Aug 2009
This is a very enjoyable Jonathon Demme movie with an incredibly mature and moving performance by Anne Hathaway in the lead role as Kym, a drug addict out of rehab to attend her sister's wedding. Demme seems to be able to get the most out of his actors, and that is certainly the case here with Hathaway and the rest of the ensemble case working wonders. In particular Rosemarie DeWitt as Rachel and Debra Winger as the troubled mother stand out. It is a well crafted movie that gradually unfurls its

3 out of 10 Weirdly captivating
Sylvester from Dublin, 25 Aug 2009
The stresses of organising a wedding were a bit too close to home for our liking but seeing how dysfunctional Rachel's family were made for more comforting viewing. The 'reality' type filming made everything appear much more first-hand - like you were one of the guests (possibly playing the bongos). Might be a movie better watched slightly out of it... Definitely not a chic flick.

0 out of 10 what on earth is this?
Dan from Carlow, 26 Jul 2009
This is quite possibly the worst film ever made. 15 minutes in I felt like I was attending a wedding. There were twenty minutes of speeches from every friend, relative or person the bride & groom had ever known. A horrible horrible violin player stalking in the background of every scene. We turned it off after 40 minutes. The most irritating cast I've ever seen on film. AAAAHHH!

3.5 out of 10 Slow Burner
Dave from Galway, 28 Aug 2009
This is not easy viewing - despite all the celebratory wedding footage, which to be fair is well done and very realistic, there's always tension around the corner, and with good reason as we slowly find out. A fine ensemble cast here, especially Hathaway, Kim DeWitt and the outstanding Debra Winger. Good movie, if slightly too long.
