Classic anti-war film
Brian from Mayo, 01 Aug 2008
Oliver Stone won an Oscar for this film, which is based on his own experiences in Vietnam. The cast is excellent throughout, with Charlie Sheen as the new recruit, but Tom Berenger and Willem Dafoe steal the show as the opposing sergeants. For a war film there is little gore, but the horrors of war are shown here to be as much psychological as physical. Well worth watching.
Stone on fire
Philip from Dublin, 03 May 2010
This is a terrific film from Oliver Stone, although it is showing its age a little. It follows a group of soldiers through a tour of duty in Vietnam. As usual, it suffers the usual problem of US films depicting the Vietnamese as shadows in the background, not real people. But it is gripping and powerful, well worth watching.
Platoon

Based around vietnam war and Chris(Charlie Sheen), as he tells his story through letters to his grandmother. Platoon does a excellent job recreating the blood, sweat, and tears of modern warfare. Excellent cast.
