Del Toro's Masterpiece

This film encaptures the imagination of the viewer and then proceeds to slip from the harsh reality of life in Francoist Spain to the fantasy world created by a young girl as her means of escape.
Del Toro pushes the boundries of special and CGI effects to create a fantasy world with a number of visually stunning characters and locations whose presence stays with the viewer long after the film has ended. He also recreates the grim reality of life in 1940s Spain and the performances of the leads

Fantastic!

I've seen about 40 odd movies so far this year, and this has been my most favourite, no doubt!
It looks stunning, the fantasy scnees are worth writing home about and you can instantly see why this guy was a candidate for LOTR trilogy, though I think this is FAR superior. The film is of 2 stories - The resistance movement to Spannish facists, and the girl's coping mechanism for the trauma around here. Will stay with me for a long time. WATCH THIS!

Magical

As original a movie as you are likely to see, this is a compelling, mythical motion picture that will stretch your imagination and keep you immersed from start to finish. Visually perfect, brilliantly acted and with a superb score, this is film making at its best. Impossible to categorise, the plot follows a girl caught up in war on the one hand and in magical quests on the other. Captivating stuff.
Pans Labyrinth

Really brilliant and original film making. A few little things didn't sit quite right with me. I though the structure was a bit odd, climax came at the wrong point and the magical/imaginary world was very dark... If it had been me making the movie I probably would have made it a more welcoming place, certainly with a dark side but the friendly characters even looker scary.
Still a truly great film!
