1.5 out of 10 Disappointing
Cliona from Cork, 23 Mar 2010
I had read the book on which this film is based, and this could be why I found it so dull and disappointing. The story has a twist, and if you know this it actually seems fairly pointless (I don't think I'd re-read the book although I enjoyed reading it first time round). It doesn't really raise interesting ethical or moral issues, although it should, and the family relationships somehow lack depth. The 2 young actors playing the sisters are however really affecting and some of the scenes are mo

2 out of 10 My Sisters Keeper

I expected to be hit by further flooding in my living room while watching this movie so came prepared with Kleenex galore but surprisingly it's not the tear jerker you would think. Without giving away too much of the storyline I think it was too busy and as result the threads of the story did not come together in a meaningful way which negated the overall tragedy of the central storyline. Cameron Diaz is not believable as the Mother figure so that didn't help either. There some charming moments

0.5 out of 10 My Sister's Keeper
Katherine from Sligo, 29 Jan 2010
I thought that this film was pretty terrible. Its storyline is promising but the actual film was an endurance from start to finish. Some of the scenes dragged on, ressembling poor music videos. I ended up fast forwarding all the scenes-to-music which were intended to pull at the heart strings but only bored me to tears. All the characters lacked any real depth. A story like this deserves more analysis of the impact on each family member's life. This didn't materialise.

3 out of 10 Tearjerker that aims for rarefied feelings as well
Mary from Limerick, 06 Feb 2011
To ramp up our emotional response, Cassavetes shoots the family members in close-up, keeping the camera at eye level. Through this intimate style, it’s easy for the audience to lock eyes with the characters and feel their sadness. Even when we see them from afar, it’s usually a point-of-view shot, so that we are entirely encapsulated in this family’s struggle with cancer. They can’t escape this everyday reality, and neither can we.

4 out of 10 Very enjoyable
sarah from Kerry, 03 Mar 2010
I have read the book and a friend who had also read the book didn't like the film. However, I disagree. I thought it was very well put together. I liked the characters that the sisters played and I prefer the film ending to the book ending. My husband wasn't impressed I'd rented a girly film and yet he really enjoyed it too and even told me I'd made a good choice.
