Excellent

The music is great, the costumes fabulous and it is filmed on site in Versailles! The acting is understated, emphasising that these famous historical characters were actual people, living in extraordinary circumstances. It gives the modern viewer some understanding of what it would be like to be the dauphine of France. Do not compare this film to other costume dramas or you will miss the point, this isn't about swashbuckling and melodrama. It is about what it was like to be Marie Antoinette.

a definite miss

probably one of the dullest movies i've ever seen. it relies completely on the aesthetic - the beautiful backdrop of Versailles complimented by sumptuous costumes and a fun soundtrack. If that's enough for you then rent it. If, however, you are looking for something which enlightens you to the life of Marie Antoinette, 1770s France or even just a good story - don't bother-
it sheds little light on her life other than to further caricature her as a wine swilling, bed-hopping good time girl.

Marie Antoinette.

I really enjoyed this refreshing approach to the period drama genre. It shows Marie Antoinette as a normal girl and tells the story through those eyes. It may not be as full of facts as other stories about this woman could have been but you really got an incite into the person she might have been. Sofia Copolla gives great direction and Kirsten Dunst is quite loveable as this infamous queen. Defintely worth a look!

The storyline of this film is indeed very poor although enjoyable for girls. The whole film is basically an excuse for a fashion show. Many mistakes were made in it as well, at one point they show all her shoes and you can see a pair of converse in the background! The most disappointing part was you didnt get to see her beheaded at all.

Had been looking forward to seeing this film but was utterly disappointed. Dunst is quite likeable as M.A. but what really spoiled it for me was the totally inappropriate rock music used throughout this period drama. Sofia Coppola is quite controversial at times but this was a very bad choice for her. Wouldn't recommend it.
