2.5 out of 10 Not bad
Maggie from Mayo, 03 Feb 2009
A bit over-long, parts of it could have been stripped out, but basically interesting enough. The knife murder seemed pretty realistic and gruesome, not the usual "stab someone anywhere and they die instantly." For the most part the sex scenes were necessary to the film to show the inner characters of the people and the developing relationship between them. Maybe one or two less wouldn't have hurt. Just about kept my interest all the way through.

2.5 out of 10 lust caution
Nuala from Dublin, 18 Sep 2008
It’s slowly paced throughout but interesting for the most part. However the sex was way over done and not at all “sexy” I was very disappointed in the end because it just sort of fizzled out and you never really got to know what the relationships were about. I think sketchy would best describe it and I wouldn’t recommend it unless you like ugly kinky sex cos there plenty of that! Get “Assembly” instead cos there is a least a real story with it!

3.5 out of 10 Artful WWII drama.
Ciaran from Dublin, 02 Sep 2008
A detailed and skilfully-made WWII drama which focuses on the Chinese resistance in the face of Japanese occupancy. We don't see much of the Japs at all as the attention focuses on the interactions between the Chinese who opposed the invasion and those who made hay from the situation. Some controversy about the risky scenes but I don't see what the fuss was about so don't rent for that reason alone.

4 out of 10 Engaging & enjoyable
Helen from Dublin, 19 Jun 2008
I thought there was great connection between the protagonists in this film & was engaged in the story throughout. Was surprised in retrospect about all the hype regarding the sex scenes - they weren't on for too long & fitted in with the story line, so not gratuitious in any way!

Mark from Dublin, 19 Jan 2009
You will have to some kind of speed reader to be able to follow the sub titles and after a while my eyes were tired from the exhertion on top of that this is quite a long dragged out affair I fell asleep twice which says a lot although I did enjoy the film overall.

What's it about....
Lust, Caution is the new film from Ang Lee, Director of Brokeback Mountain and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. She is not in fact Mrs. Mak, but shy Wong Chia Chi (Tang Wei). With WWII underway,...
