What a film

I really enjoyed this film........in silence of the lambs, I could not help liking the character, "Hannibal", for some reason, you seem to relate to a serial killer.........this movie justifies why you can understand, even if completely disagree with the barbaric evolution Hannibal takes place due to an horrific experience as a boy..................watch this...........especially if you like psychology...

I think in fairness to this movie, and bearing in mind the below reviews, this is definitly a must for any fan of the Hannibal Lecter series. It is fairly true to the original story in the book by Robert Harris and provides a good background to any of the preceding 3 movies. It is reasonably entertaining and good fodder for the fan of comic gore and mild horror although it lacks the suspense of Silence and Red Dragon while being a bit more stylish than Hannibal. Worth a look.

Not the Best Hannibal Film But Worth a Look...

This film was pretty good, but I had just read the book & found the book far more entertaining & creepy. It's definitely worth a look if you've seen all the other Hannibal films & want to complete the circle & the creepy young Eastern European actor that they got to play the young Hannibal is actually brilliant in the part. I'll be watching out for him in future ventures. As I said, not the best, but worth a look & has its moments.

Okay as far as Hannibal films go

Honestly, I felt this film lacking - I cant put my finger on it, perhaps if Anthony hopkins played even a minor role, I would have apreciated it more.
But there were also scenes where I just thought it was trying too hard, I wont give away, but I felt unconvinced by the the attempt to bring the 'hannibal mask' into play as they did.
Its a good film all told, but as hannibal films go, it was lacking that extra spark for me.

How much longer can they milk this character?

In "Silence of the Lambs" Hannibal Lecter was a genuinely disturbing and fascinating creation, unfortunately he has been on a downhill slope ever since. Naturally he is a cannibal because bad things happened to him when he was child, straight out of psychology for dummies 101.
While there are no surprises here, it is not as bad as Red Dragon or that other one whose name currently escapes me.
