Beautiful

A bit slow at the beginning, but it's worth sticking with. Beautiful movie with the tenderness between the two leads towards the end very moving. The contrast between Penelope's character at the beginning and at the end of the movie is very well portrayed, and the relationship between the two is believable and naturally acted, with nice little touches throughout the film which make it feel as though you are observer of what is happening, rather than watching a staged set up.

Too slow.

Dreadful movie, redeemed only by the appearance of the wonderful Penelope Cruz.
The story centres around a 50-something college professor having an affair with a 20-something student, a concept that is creepy enough to begin with, and unacceptable, really. There are many long silences, and very little happens in the end, so you are left wondering what was the point of the movie.
Best film i've seen in ages

I thought this was a fantastic and clever film. it meanders at a nice slow pace but ben kingsleys character is interesting from the begining. full of deep complicated characters that are easy to empathise with. Untimately a moving film that will have you thinking about it the next day... brilliant.

Based on the Philip Roth novel The Dying Animal but nowhere as good as the book. I did'nt find Ben Kingsley convincing as the ageing lecturer obsessed with his young student.
