This absolutely blew me away, and i went to it knowing very little about it. Basically the story of a 'wrong place wrong time couple meeting creepy teenagers' , it works very well in building up tension, fear and a sense of dread. All without resorting to scary monsters or anything similar. It works because it's highly credible ( even if the coupla are naive). Eden Lake strives to be a realistic modern horror film but fails completely. There's usually a fair amount of dodgy decision making in many horror films (it's endemic in the genre) but the characters here are so utterly stupid it defies belief. It's very hard to care about characters who make the most illogical decisions possible from the word go. As a result, no amount of terrror or horror can create the desired effect. Poorly written & badly acted this is definitely one to avoid.

Funny how people either really liked this or detest it. For me that comes down to folks who have a narrow opinion of what a movie should be and they don't like being taken outa their comfort zone and this movie will certainly do that. So they hate it for it. As for the movie, has a couple of 'why are they doing that?' moments but improves as it goes and is a very good take on yobbish British culturetaken to the extreme.
Excellent Modern Horror

Absolutely loved this film. I'm a real horror fan, and even I found some moments in this difficult to watch. Not for the faint hearted, but beyond the gore and brutality is a really well crafted modern horror movie, with some great performances and genuine terror and tension, and an unsettling unpleasantness reminiscent of "Deliverance". Won't suit everyone's tastes, but I really enjoyed it.

This is a lot more interesting than most American horror/thrillers because it is way more realistic. If you are sick of the typical American slasher type movies with the spoiled American teens who make you actually side with the killer then have a look at this british film. Starts off slow but once it gets going it's as good as any i've seen in last few years.
