Forgettable

The only thing that saves this movie is an incredible performance from novice Jennifer Hudson who steals the show. Eddie Murphy is also suprisingly good in a more serious role than his usual comedy parts.
Starts off well and then halfway through changes into a musical which is embarrasingly toe-curling when the characters are having their arguments through song.
Had potential but lost its appeal and went on too long, but Jennifer Hudson is a shining star for the future.

This is a travesty of a film - neither a proper musical nor a straight film nor indeed a decent film about a girl group trying to make it in the industry. There are about 15 different story lines none of which get enough time to be developed enough to make you care. This film should have been straight-to-video, and the fact that anyone was even nominated for an oscar simply demonstrates that the right kind of marketing will get you just about anything.

Over-rated and over-hyped. That's not to say it isn't any good, it is, but it doesn't deserve the plaudits it's receiving. A good performance from Eddie Murphy, but not Oscar worthy. With the exception of Danny Glover, most of the cast, in particular Jamie Foxx, have zero personality. And while Jennifer Hudson has a powerhouse of a voice, is it really acting?

I found this movie very disappointing! The script is much too cheesy for my liking and a never ending emotional song halfway through nearly had me turning off the tv.
Beyonce has a beautiful voice, but her role is much too small and pretty for centre cover! I believe her face was the only reason for even getting to video.

The music is nice in some parts and boooooring in others. Good acting but I have my doubts about the direction. It could have been a very nice movie if things did not slow so much and the right music would be played only in the right moments for the right reasons. It is not bad, but pitty, it could be much better.
