4.5 out of 10 British movie classic
Philip from Dublin, 28 Jul 2009
A rare war movie that manages to be both rousing and thoughtful, there aren't many better examinations of the contradictions inherent in the military mindset. Guinness was never better in his role as the stubbornly proud but unimaginative commander of a group of British POW's tasked with building a bridge on the notorious Rangoon to Bangkok railroad. The action sequences are dated now and a bit silly, but its still great to see so many good actors and a great director at work. A true classic.

From beginning to end, Alex and the boys keep you interested. Very real and believable. I don't give 10s

Saito insists that Nicholson order his men to build a bridge over the river Kwai, which will be used to transport Japanese munitions. Nicholson refuses, despite all the various persuasive devices at Saito's disposal. Finally, Nicholson agrees,...
