3 out of 10 So so
Stephen from Dublin, 19 Jan 2010
This isn't a patch on the original John Mortimer penned TV series. I think the story is too broad for a 2 hour movie and it missed a lot of the nuance of the novel. There was a disconnect between the two main characters which left you wondering why on earth they got into each others company in the first place. The Sebastian character was way too camp. Not a patch on Anthony Andrews who always had a bit of an edge to him. A miss, I'm afraid.

4 out of 10 Beautiful Adaptation
Lyn from Cork, 26 Mar 2010
This was a beautiful film, well crafted and adapted with a wonderful cast. It was very different to the TV series - with which it cannot be reasonably compared anyway - how can you possibly get all that detail into just 2 hours? It brought out the issues very starkly and is well worth a watch.

4 out of 10 Excellent drama
John from Donegal, 28 Dec 2009
The story of forbidden love and loss of innocence in pre-war England. Brilliantly played by Goode & Whishaw as the would be doomed lovers. Not as good as the BBC series, but this I think was due to trying to cram so much into so little time.

3 out of 10 A reasonable adaptation
Eamon from Meath, 04 Jan 2010
This one wasn't bad, you could see that they struggled to keep it down in lenght and it suffers a bit for this. You don't really get the sense of obsession that is core to the book. That said, it is well acted and is worth a look.
