Grim is the word
Myriam from Dublin, 11 Apr 2012
Don't watch this movie if you need cheering up, it is definitely very grim. The sex scenes are also fairly off-putting, I guess to reflect the characters' increasingly damaged relationship. Having said this, both Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams are very good and also very natural in the movie. Some scenes look like they were not actually acted but that the 2 of them were just having a bit of a laugh together. Still can't figure out if I liked it or not though, definitely makes you think of what makes a relationship work and 2 people fall out of love.
Brilliant performances but could induce suicide

Brilliant performances but the story is realistic and will only send embittered and estranged spouses to a whole new level of depression. Not a cheerful movie
So sad to watch
