Disappointing
Les from Dublin, 20 Apr 2008
If you have a deep knowledge of Joyce's literature, then you probably won't get much out of this film. If you have no knowledge of Joyce's literature, then you'll probably get nothing out of this film. However, I think it was a brave, and honest attempt to put "Ulysses" on to film, but the joy of Joyce is in the writing - and that's not what movies are about. Dubliners will have fun spotting parts of the city where it was filmed. In particluar, see if you can spot Heuston railway station!
Difficult to keep concentration

This film had a good sense of time and place and was well acted. However, I found the verbose talkovers did not keep my attention. I have only read about half of Ulysses, so am not sure how close it is to the book, and like the book, I found it difficult to stick with.
Only for Joyce's Ulysses' lovers

Since this film is adapted from James Joyce's infamous book Ulysses, essentially it is very introspective. Good acting and atmospheric, but very slow.

personally this was a bit too surreal from me. I hated it . Strictly for Joyce fans as its an interpretation of ulyseess.
Bloom - Interesting adapation but not convinced!

Interesting adapation of a difficult book. Not convinced though. Wouldn't rush out to rent it again.
