2 out of 10 Beau Travail
Sighle from Dublin, 25 Jun 2007
A strange little film which was boring and interesting. It made me wonder what sort of person would see this particular tough approach to being in the armed forces as a career something to devote your life too. Did wonder what old soldiers do when they're too old to continue the physical torture of the French Foreign legion

4 out of 10 Beau Travail
annemarie from Sligo, 02 Apr 2008
I really liked this -it was challenging and I guess explores the notion of masculinity, pain ,jealosy and dedication to a higher cause.I hadnt known anything about the French Foreign Legion before but I think it was very honestly if brutally portrayed. Its very artistic and moving throughout.

3.5 out of 10 Beau travail
conor from Dublin, 05 May 2009
I really enjoyed this movie moody atmospheric and the cinematography really captured the arid barreness of the desert and the harshness of the light. A slow burning story of jealousy and masculinity. Reminded me of Malick in some ways.

1 out of 10 just plain boring
wendy from Cavan, 30 Jun 2008
there's some nice eye-candy for the girls but apart from that this film starts at a tedious pace, stays at a tedious pace and finishes at a tedious pace.don't waste your time, unless you're a glutton for punishment.

What's it about....
Inspired by Herman Melville’s ‘Billy Budd’, filmmaker Claire Denis’ ‘Beau Travail’ is a stunning combination of literature, music and dance that explores the near-mythical world of the French Foreign Legion. Dennis Lavant stars as Galoup, a sergeant-major whose position and power are threatened when the bravery and heroism of new recruit Sentain (Gregoire Colin) attracts the attention of the platoon’s commandant (Michel Subor). Enraged, Galoup plots Sentain’s downfall, a...
