Give the man an Oscar!

This is a fantastic film. Though it presents something of a false start - it sets off as though it's a thriller - it soon settles into a riveting character based drama, charting the adult life of the titular Barney from his slightly restrained yet bohemian beginnings in 70s Rome to his obnoxious and apathetic TV producer of the present day. Plenty of ups & downs, laughs & shocks with a twist or 2, this has one of Giamatti's best performances to date. It won him the Golden Globe and if there was any justice, the Oscar would have been his, too.

A must see especially if a Paul Giamatti fan

A touching, well acted movie, flashes back and forth through Paul Giamatti's character Barney's life, his successes and failures especially in love and marriage. Solid acting especially from Giamatti, Dustin Hoffman is excellent as always. Minnie driver is good and Rosamund Pike is a delight. Bittersweet. Would recommend!

Petty poor says it all...and what a poor choice of a Barney...never looked like fitting the bill!!
Very nice gentle drama

Enjoyed this. Nice pace and gentle while still quirky enough to keep you engaged.
