5 out of 10 Excellent Lieutenant

This is the kinda film that has everything - action, comedy (amusing rather than lol), drama, scenery (real), good music (ie not that John Williams stuff), karma, sex, drugs and back pain (not many films deal with this common ailment). And a bit of the xfactor - meaning of course a lead role for the iguanas. Cage's best performance in a long long time.

3.5 out of 10 I liked it

Remember 'Falling Down' with Michael Douglas? This is like a drug fuelled police version. Cage plays a crack addict cop, who hasn't quite been the same since an injury in the line of duty. It basically follows his downward spiral during a murder investigation, where he desperately tries to get his next fix of drugs, women and gambling. Worthwhile.

4.5 out of 10 Good
Nuala from Dublin, 17 Nov 2010
I enjoyed this film much better than the original 1992 film of the same name. There are very few similarities between the films and that’s a good thing. The story is strong the whole way through and Nicolas cage was great but the very end of the film is a bit obscure but don’t let that put you off

4 out of 10 Excellent

People seem to be split with this film and I was a little apprehensive about watching it, but I loved it. Cage is just great and I still can't stop smiling when I think of that mad sequence with the iguanas, completely pointless but utterly genius.

Am unsure whether to like this film or not. i dont know if i should be liking or hating nic cage's character. i am not normally shocked at films but i was shocked at a very public sex scene. the rest of the film was good enough.

What's it about....

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina he becomes a high-functioning addict who is a deeply intuitive, fearless detective reigning over the beautiful ruins of New Orleans with authority and abandon. Complicating his tumultuous...
