4 out of 10 Strange but good
Andy from Westmeath, 02 Jul 2007
I had never heard of this HBO special before I seen it here on Screenclick so I had little idea of what to expect. I was blown away! The story is basically about the onset of AIDS in America and shows the different ways people deal with being sick, being gay, being straight, being depressed, repressed and just nuts!! It's surreal, funny, sad all at the same time. Al Pacino is awesome as a powerful lawyer. Good performances also from Mary Louise Parker & Emma Thompson. Looking forward to part 2.

3 out of 10 Angels In America

All of the performers are top-notch at delivering Kushner's poetic prose. Admittedly, it's difficult to view the subject matter in light of the political era in which it was written -- especially given that the state of the world has since worsened (considering the role that AIDS, conservative politics, and religious intolerance have played since the '80s). When seen as a period piece, however, Angels in America is a beautifully excessive drama that seems to have arrived at just the right time.

4.5 out of 10 Amazing Grace
John from Donegal, 18 Sep 2007
An exceptional series. I was hooked from the first scene. The acting, script & locations are all top notch. I had high expectations of Streep & Thompson, but the rest of the cast equalled them in on-screen magnatism. Sorry if this sounds a bit gushy, but I can't help it, I want the second part NOW. Although it is a drama about people affected by AIDS, it is not at all depressing, the surreal scenes with the drug induced hallucinations raise the feel of the piece altogether.

3 out of 10 angels in america part 1
Colette from Kilkenny, 17 May 2008
I didn't know what to expect from this two-parter and i was pleasantly surprised. Its mainly about the gay community and HIV/AIDS. the cast is very likable and good plot development. The film can get surreal at times as it goes into what is dream sequences of the plot. /if you have an open mind i think you will like this

3.5 out of 10 Very enjoyable.
John A from Dublin, 27 Nov 2008
While some might feel the subject matter is a bit depressing (HIV, Aids etc), the phenomenal acting more than makes up for it. The multi-role playing of the actors is very well executed and entertaining. Any film with Al Pacino, Meryl Streep, Emma Thompson is always going to be pretty descent though isn't it!
