This is the ultimate anti-war movie. Certainly it feels dated as it is almost 80 years old but there is no mistaking the quality of this movie. This should be compulsory viewing for everyone as it shows the horror of war both for the individual and for society - it also shows the idiocy of the ones who stay at home and want wars to be waged - they think it is glorious but Paul and his comrades know otherwise; they are the ones who have to do the killing, the ones who have to twist the bayonet wh

Set in a Germany at the start of the first world war, it follows and classroom of idealistic schoolboys who join up because of a teacher who encourages them. It follows their initiation into the reality of was as one by one, they are killed. Brilliant.
