3 out of 10 Slow romance
John from Dublin, 24 Feb 2008
This movie has been parodied so many times that watching the original seems pointless, however the two leads are good value and although the 'erotic' scenes are tame and very dated by the standards of even modern music videos, the tension builds well as a divorced art saleswoman Bassinger embarks on an affair with sexually inventive financier Rourke. There is heavy use of artistic imagery, bold lighting, and some iconic scenes. It ties up well (!) but finally its all a bit much for us - and Kim.

2.5 out of 10 Groundbreaking... in the early 80's..
James from Dublin, 31 May 2007
OK, basically its now an old film, and when you take away the contraversy it got when it came out, what remains is a fairly ordinary love story. Groundbreaking in the day, not so today. The movie is like the scene in Glenroe when Dick & Teasey get it on. Raunchy in the day, but not anymore since we now have fair city WHAAARRR.

1 out of 10 9 and a half years too late
Barry from Dublin, 25 Jul 2007
I had a lot of fond memories of this as a teenager, and so did my teenage girlfriend. Now, it's just embarrassing. If you've netered your twenties, move swiftly along. There's nothing to see here.

Worst storyline ever. Do not think it would have been so bad if it had a proper ending! Hate films that just end with no resolve!

What's it about....
They broke every rule. Elizabeth (Academy Award winner Kim Basinger) is a Soho gallery worker, romantically uninvolved since a painful divorce. John (Mickey Rourke) is a wealthy commodities broker, emotionally alone no matter who he's with. A chance meeting draws them into each other's worlds. Obsession takes them further into a mutual world of eroticism and emotional awakenings. With visual flair, director Adrian Lyne (Fatal Attraction, 1998's Lolita) explores...
