3 out of 10 Too coincidental?
Una from Dublin, 30 Jun 2007
Granted the point of the movie has something to do with showing how our actions effect others, but the ripple effect of the whole thing is a bit absurd at times. That said, it was an interesting movie, although I can see how it might not be to some people's tastes. This shouldn't spoil the movie for anyone, but returning the shirt was a bit strange. Surely it gives rise to some continuity issues? It baffled me how she still had it. All in all, enjoyable for what it is.

4 out of 10 Crafted jigsaw
Catherine from Cork, 17 Jul 2007
I really liked this movie when I saw it (and I am not a fan of Matthew McConaughey) but I found also that it was very thought provoking. If you are interested in what is happiness, what is the meaning of life or of choice this movie will interest you. The stories dovetail almost too neatly but you have to admire the way it all works together and Alan Arkin is supberb. Worth a viewing

2.5 out of 10 Middle of the road
Hazel from Dublin, 10 Dec 2007
A gently paced series of vinigettes dealing with the nature of happiness, luck, fate and what we want out of life. Pretty decent character acting make this a decent enough movie. The movie just ambles along, so fans of fast-paced, instant payoff films may not find this one too engrossing. Not a masterpiece by any means, but not the worst film ever either.

2 out of 10 Slow and pointless
Maggie from Mayo, 18 Dec 2007
This film tries to be intellectual but fails badly and ends up just being boring (perhaps mildly interesting if you are desperate). There's nothing new to learn from it about life, the universe and everything. The coincidences are daft, the dialogue too trite and too cliched.

2.5 out of 10 13 Conversations About One Thing
Dóirín from Galway, 12 Feb 2008
Such a strange movie! It was hard to get into it because of each character story jumping back and forth. I came out feeling a sense of "WHAT was this movie about?!" By the time I worked out the 'cord' that tied it all together, it was over and I felt unfulfilled. Sorry!

What's it about....
Director Jill Sprecher's critically acclaimed film assembles an all-star, ensemble cast in a fresh and whimsical look at the invisible, everyday and destiny shaping miracles that we've come to call "fate." In five distinct New York tales, the lives of seemingly disparate characters: a public defender (Matthew McConaughey) whose life suddenly mirrors that of the criminals he prosecutes; a college professor (John Turturro) facing a poignant crossroads, an envious businessman...
